Chatuchak Weekend Market

what is it?

  • the world’s largest outdoor market selling goods from shoes and bags to souvenirs and customised passport holders
  • this is a unique shopping experience that you need to visit at least once!

  • get lost walking through the thousands of alley ways connecting the 15,000 stalls
  • find that designer bag you wanted or even replace your whole kitchen with new crockery

Jodd Fairs Night Market

what is it?

  • the number one night market you do not want to miss whilst in bangkok!
  • this place is filled with the strangest tasting snacks, the best food and shopping!

  • favoured by locals and tourists alike, this market is a cool hangout spot with friends and family
  • grab a drink and enjoy the live music on most nights with their open air seating

Kayak to The Beautiful Island – Ko Ngam

THAILAND

what is it?

  • kayak over to the most underrated beach in koh chang at the southernmost tip of the island,
  • to get here, follow signs to long beach but be careful as the road leading down can be quite narrow and bumpy.
  • head down the gravel path to this point and you will see a kayak vendor here (rental cost is 250THB/day) – don’t forget to bring cash!

why go?

  • you’ll get to experience the beautiful protected island which is now a national park
  • something fun and unusual to do on a sunny day!

when is it?

  • every day – you just have to make sure you get back from ko ngam by dusk

  • anyone up for an adventure and looking for a beautiful secluded beach! (but just remember to leave here before it gets dark as the roads are dangerous!)

Explore the Hidden Mangroves

what is it?

  • explore the mangrove forest with a local fisherman on their boat.
  • head over to salak khok boat tour office & jump on for a 50 minute journey.
  • approximate cost is 200THB pp.
  • make sure you get there by 2.30pm as the boats stop at 4pm.

why go?

  • a beautiful experience with local fishermen.
  • chance to see something less touristy.

Wander Through a Sky Full of Fireflies

what is it?

  • the beautiful fireflies light up the sky at night and iyara seafood restaurant offer a complimentary boat ride to go and see them if you eat there!
  • alternatively you can head down to the Salak Khok Mangrove Forest and see them for yourself hovering in the mangroves because they really are so incredible to see up close!

why go?

  • it’s a spectacular thing to watch and really is a different experience!
  • the fireflies usually come out at night after the rain has stopped!

when is it?

  • mainly in the rainy season (may-oct).
  • they can also be seen on other days too so just enquire at the restaurant and see if they’re going out to see them.

Local Cooking Class at Napalai Thai

what is it?

  • a 3 course cooking class hosted by locals from koh chang.
  • they host 3 cooking classes a day (morning, afternoon and evening) which cost 1200THB for the morning class, 1000THB for the afternoon class and lastly 1600THB for the evening class.
  • if you’re interested in learning how to make seafood, they only do this in the evening class.

why go?

  • you’ll make some delicious thai food with a local from koh chang.
  • bunny is a great host and you’ll definitely enjoy yourself!

Spend the Day with Rescue Dogs

what is it?

  • a rescue home for stray dogs on koh chang island.
  • tina and martina have been caring for stray dogs and cats on the island since 2008.
  • they search for and rescue these animals, provide them with food, treatment, and ultimately offer them a home – all on their own, without any funding.

  • see the amazing work they have done and show a friendly face and if you can, some support!

Visit an Abandoned Cruise Ship

what is it?

  • an abandoned ghost cruise ship hotel which has been closed for a few years.
  • it’s guarded by security but sometimes by paying them an amount you can get in.
  • even if you don’t, the drive down there is an adventure in itself!

  • spooky and unusual experience in koh chang.

Kayak to a Secret Beach

what is it?

  • there is a beautiful secluded beach next to an abandoned cruise ship hotel!
  • you can’t access it by road but you can access it by kayak.
  • rent a kayak from the tropical hideaway hotel (location below) and then kayak over to this exact location – it should take you around 20minutes!
  • there is nothing there so take water with you.

why go?

  • it is completely secluded and the beach and sea is pristine there!
  • marine life and snorkelling is beautiful.

when is it?

  • dry season (nov – may).

  • anyone who is feeling a bit adventurous!
  • make sure you let tropical hideaway hotel know where you’re going so someone knows where you are! (everything is of course at your own risk!)

Ben Beach Massage

what is it?

  • a beautiful massage spot on the best beach in koh chang – klong kloi beach.
  • expect to pay around 200-400THB (that’s only £9!) for a 1 hour thai massage!

  • they do the best massages which are super cheap and it’s very clean!
  • it’s a really calming spot on the beach with the waves crashing right next to you.

Free Diving with BB Divers

what is it?

  • free diving is a skill where you dive underwater on a single breath without any breathing apparatus.
  • but it isn’t just about holding your breath and going for a swim – it’s about learning breath work techniques and how to control and clear your mind.
  • you can do a 1 day taster course or opt into the full training courses.

  • it’s an incredible skill to learn and also allows you to get down below the surface of the water & up close to coral and fish without needing any diving equipment!

  • a diving experience to discover the 100m long HTMS chang shipwreck.
  • we recommend booking this with BB Divers!

  • a really cool diving experience and you’ll see an array of colourful fish, from batfish and filefish to scorpionfish and barracuda.
  • if you’re lucky, you might even spot a giant grouper, squid, octopus, or even a whale shark!

  • tickets vary from 3rd class to ring side – we personally thought 3rd class tickets had a good enough view!

Thai Cooking Class in Bangkok with a local

  • khun poo began this class over 5 years ago, when the price of rice doubled in 2007 and she could no longer make a living from selling food from her house.

  • an stunningly designed skyscraper with a unique glass floor experience at the height of 310 metres, looking down onto the bustling streets of bangkok.
  • tip: make sure to buy your tickets online beforehand as they’re much cheaper and you’ll skip the queues!

why go?

  • an exhilarating experience which we’ve never seen before, and it was worth every second!
  • head there 2 hours before sunset to be able to enjoy the skywalk before!

  • glass tray experience closes at 11.45pm.
  • the best time to go is around 3 or 4pm when golden hour is just about setting in.

  • speed boat hire at howe sound. you’re the captain now.

  • only boats reach howe sound’s secret coves and teeny isles.

  • safety first, it’s summer only.

what is it?

  • A calm, candle-centric Semana Santa, with no hooded penitents.

why go?

  • Pyrgos sparks up candles and fires on rooftops for Good Friday. Sounds enchanting, is enchanting.
  • Catch at least one candlelit procession – take your pick, they’re everywhere.
  • Don’t miss Saturday fireworks at Fira. Book an island restaurant for an Easter Sunday feast.
