new orleans pronounced ‘nawlins’ is full of its old world charm, the magic of cajun & creole cuisine, live music & its hectic party scene. don’t get yourself stuck in a tourist rabbit hole in the french quarter, there is way to much to see, drink & eat… and also ghost stories to hear & shivers to feel…

TIPS

GENERAL

the walking tour of the city is a must, make sure you pre-book even if it's a free tour. find our favourite in our new orleans experience page
mardis gras is an annual festival starting in january, ending on shrove/fat tuesday in february. the biggest and most lively day is on shrove tuesday! Previous
new orleans is pretty lax when it comes to drinking alcohol! ask the bartender for a go-cup and finish your cocktail whilst strolling to the next bar or restaurant!

GETTING AROUND

the airport shuttle bus to the city is $24pp one-way and located on the ground level of the airport across from the baggage claim area. alternatively city cabs/uber/lyft are min $33 per trip
new orleans is a relatively small city and you can walk pretty much everywhere, however a great option is to use the streetcar to get somewhere quicker. it’s $1.25pp one way (they only except exact change). you can buy a jazzy pass for unlimited rides which includes the bus too
once you get to the city, ditch the car you won't need it for your stay and parking is pretty expensive. also the risk of it getting damaged whilst parked is high!

WHERE TO STAY

theres nothing like experiencing new orleans than actually staying right in the heart of it! make sure you stay in the french quarter, there's tons of options for all budgets
hotels & airbnbs in the city will get booked up at least 7 months before mardis gras. the bourbon orleans hotel is our favourite and is located right in the heart of the french quarter Previous
for more of a local vibe, stay in the uptown/garden district. everything is in walking distance and is quieter at night Previous
