3 Best Hotels in Chiang Rai

Looking for the best places to stay in Chiang Rai, we’ve got you covered with the 3 best hotels in Chiang Rai! We spent a while hotel hopping around Chiang Rai to bring you the best options!

Chiang Rai is the first capital of the Thai Lanna Kingdom, and is also the smaller, calmer and quieter version of Chiang Mai. It’s the perfect getaway from the bustling cities of Thailand and great to visit at the end of the year. We’d say you need a maximum of 2 nights to cover the main highlights in Chiang Rai and the surrounding areas, but if you’re looking for somewhere to take a break in the moving around whilst travelling, or somewhere to stay a little longer, we have the best places for you to stay below! We’ve personally tried all 3 and highly recommend them!

฿฿ – A boutique hotel in the heart of Chiang Rai: Nai Ya Hotel

Most city hotels don’t have the oasis look and feel, and after exploring the sights, this was the best place to take a dip into the gorgeous wrap around pool and collapse on one of the most comfortable beds we’ve ever slept in!

We loved the style of Nai Ya because they combined modern comfort but still kept the authenticity of the Lanna identity from Chiang Rai, making sure you still felt like you were in Thailand.

Most importantly the staff treat you like family which was so welcoming and made our stay that extra special.

We would definitely be going back here and this is our TOP hotel to stay in when visiting Chiang Rai.

Check rates and availability

From the hotel you’ll have easy access to some of the main places you’ll need to get to in Chiang Rai:

happynest hostel

฿ – A hip hostel in the centre: Happynest Hostel

This small hostel is located right in the heart of the city, with spacious clean rooms, from dorms to private rooms. The hostel has a delicious café called Good Carb with a western breakfast if you need a break from the local food (we definitely did, and the food hit the spot)! Coupled with great lounging and working spaces, this is the ideal place to stay for backpackers, solo travellers & digital nomads.

The staff are really helpful when looking at booking tours in Chiang Rai and also can help with information on how to get to Laos. However, we recommend not booking any pre packaged tours to Laos as it’s cheaper if you book it all separately.

Make sure you book in advance if you want to stay here, because they get super fully booked!

฿฿฿- A slice of luxury: The Heritage Chiang Rai Hotel and Convention

If you’re in need of a little bit more luxury, but still affordable, this 4 star hotel is the one! It’s close enough to the centre to be involved, but far enough away to be able to chill by the pool and feel like you’re somewhere else. The hotel is located a 10 minute walk from the Central Chiang Rai mall and a 10 minute drive to the night market and for the last 2 nights of our stay in Chiang Rai, this place was great! It’s not a boutique hotel, so don’t expect the personal touch, but if you’re looking for a place to chill and escape and stay for a while, this is the one – especially because their pool is huge and gives off a resort feel!
