ahhh, our first love. this place is magical, it’s not just the breathtaking views & the fairytale skyline, santorini is so much more than where the tourists head. the locals eat like kings in small backstreet tavernas & party on free flowing ouzo whilst smashing & dancing on plates.. magical is the only way to describe this place

GENERAL

we have found the best sunset point, isolated on a cliff, completely off the beaten path. bring something to sit on and a bottle of wine and watch the sun disappear into the aegean sea (36°21'54.6"n 25°22'53.3"e) Previous
imerovigli and firo stefani both connect to thira by a gorgeous caldera footpath with stunning views and small boutique shops and tavernas
if you need cash, make sure you withdraw euros from the atm instead of the currency exchange shops (only a few and rates are high). at the atm always choose the option "without conversion" so you get better value for your money!

GETTING AROUND

if you're island hopping, you'll probably come by ferry. the shared bus transfer from the port to thira should not be more than €10pp or ~€35 for a private taxi. (oia will cost more)
quad bike hire for a minimum of 2 days is a must, you can park anywhere as long as you're not blocking anyone. you can really explore the beauty of the villages around the island. mid-season pricing is ~€34/day Previous

WHERE TO STAY

imerovigli is the best location to stay in. the sunset & caldera views are incredible, you're more amongst the locals so everything is more reasonably priced, there is a lot more to see and it's not that touristy!
oia is the most expensive place to stay and eat and is brimming with tourists. it's worth exploring for a couple of hours. jump on your atv for a quick pitstop and then escape out to the real santorini
perissa is great if you want to spend some time outside of the tourist hotspots. enjoy swimming in the sea, fresh fish tavernas and bohemian evenings on the (non sandy) beaches Previous
