  • run by the same family since 1922, basically santorini restaurant royalty
  • dress up or come in your comfies, nobody minds. just book, it gets busy
  • do not expect fancy pants, it is a simple taverna and more loveable for it
  • staff are table weaving plate balancing masters of efficiency
  • try for a table outside and miss the moussaka at your peril, it is close to perfect

  • swim during lunch (its not a rule, just a really good idea)
  • practically dipped in the ocean, of course armenis big on fresh fish and seafood
  • snag a lounger for a post lunch snooze
  • low key, barefoot, a little bit beachy and charming on the service front
  • not up for boats? the walk to armeni is almost as pretty as the sail (but only almost)

  • service is superb and the place is a family business

  • Dinky little Roka wins hearts with a sweet vibe, soul- food and a cosy stove in winter.
  • Locals shower Roka with kind words too. They eat here a lot, so best to book.
  • Originally a sea captain’s house, Roka’s big on views.
  • Seek it our for melty lamb shank and coffee-crème-brûlée.

  • Hit this colourful cutey by day to swoon over seafood.
  • Covet tables with your toes in the water. Wet feet are worth it for the views.
  • Pricey maybe, but we love the barefoot vibe and sweet staff. Never too busy, so linger over lunch.
  • Get staff to call for a taxi to save you a climb up to Oia. Just ask.

  • Kokkalo means ‘bone’ in Greek, take them at their word and try the roast lamb shank.
  • Book a table outdoors and lose your heart to the views.
  • Interior’s a sweet deal on design, but terrace always wins.

  • Bills itself ‘best restaurant in Imerovigli’, and we can’t argue with that.
  • Low on caldera views so low on tourists too, all the better to woo locals, and it does.
  • Go for traditional Greek food, it’s as good as the lovely owners claim.
  • Pitch up on spec, you’ll have a wait, but wine and comfy seats ease the pain.
