TIPS

GENERAL

for cheap eats, check out terminal 21 or MBK, you can find some of the cheapest food in the food courts of most shopping malls!
AIS is the best network, avoid buying sim cards at the airport, instead, head to the 4th floor at MBK mall and get one from one of the stalls!
you can buy long distance train tickets online from www.railway.co.th/home, origin station is called krung thep aphiwat (formerly bang sue)

GETTING AROUND

rush hour in this city is crazy! look out for motorcycles with orange vests, they’re a great way to get around when traffic builds up from 2pm
metered taxi - flag one down and convince them to travel on meter, if they do, the fare will be a hell of a lot cheaper than bolt/grab
BTS sky train - 60-80 baht pp for approx 4 stops & is the best way to avoid the rush hour and surge in taxi costs

WHERE TO STAY

ari - a quiet, middle class & local neighbourhood with coffee shops, jazz bars & street food during lunch
ratchathewi - a vibrant area with a local feel and definitely away from where all the tourists stay. great street food & close to the city
nana - if you're feeling more of a party vibe, stay in the heart of bangkok. lyf hotel was by far our favourite and close to nana BTS station
